SPRING HOPE

And what could be more anticipated around the Ponds than the arrival of new baby ducklings?  I got these photos sent to me from Ann Lowrey.  Shelley, from the Woodlands, took them.  She's the one you see occasionally around the ponds with a big telephoto lens..now you see the reason!
In fact I just saw the mother and her chicks cross the road.  Simultaneously, from the upper road I watched a car come in way over the speed limit and was holding my breath wondering if any of the chicks was going to get run over. Some of them, typical kid style, had slowly gotten steam up to run after mum, who by now was over the road with the others, and were scurrying across to her..... shut your eyes..... whew...the car slowed for the speed bump and saw the little ones.  Another escape.
The eagles, hawks and feral cats also await the unwary.  By the time they are big enough  to fend for themselves some will have been caught.  But enough survive to adulthood to fill the ponds with life and another Spring has passed into history.

Meet  Pauline! our new Office face...

Our Annual Garage Sale began well and only got better for most folk attending.  Lots of fun with new and old neighbors as well as sharing tables to boost sales

Our Weiner Roast at Honeymoon Point on April  23 was a very wet and windy day, but the fun of gathering as neighbors outweighed the only slightly dampened spirits!

There was a good sized turnout, too.  Partly because John and Karen McDougall generously contributed a gazebo for covering our table of eats and us too!On a slightly nicer day the local neighbors helped lift it off their deck and carry it up to the campfire area.

My especial thanks to Cathy Trollip for the great photos which she generously shares with me! It's always nice to SEE the events...

For May and June, here is the Social Calendar, thanks to Cathy again for the photo

The changes in the Park are tremendous this year.  Many moving in in the worst possible weather and many more to come.  Sales are booming and new units will be arriving as they come off the assembly line. Please do help me in informing Diane of Welcome Wagon when new neighbors move into your area.!

The buildup of the area along the Wedding Pond with 3 new lots has been fortified with stonework retaining wall...it looks really nice..

On the Garden Front:  photos of the new garden area that is being planned for Residents.  If anyone receiving this blog would like to inquire about this, please contact Agnes Aaberg, as she is the Chairman of the Garden Club.  Her phone is: 250 324 8927. If Brian answers, he can help too! Or talk to one of the Members.

The new location is at the end of Cherry Lane to the left and into the new Works Yard.  Said Garden can be accessed also by foot on the far side of Laughing Pond.  A path leads in directly.

Old location at the end of Cherry Lane

For those of you who know Mary and Harry,  long term RV residents, they have moved from near the new Works Yard to Chris Marshs old place near Butterfly Pond. They have fixed it up as cute as the old place was. Chris, on the other hand, has moved to Campbell River and is happily ensconced in a new RV park there.  He'd be happy to see old faces if you're up that way!
Mary and Harry in new digs..set up pretty!

One more item: on May 20-28 the Chemainus Sketch Group will be showing their works at the Ladysmith Art Gallery:
5 residents are showing their works and would love to meet and greet all interested in seeing what it's all about!

That sums it up for now!  Thanks again for contributors and all who make Chemainus Garden a wonderful place to live.....

Cheers!

Leslie

JULY AND AUGUST the dog days of summer...

By July the garden at Chemainus Garden was in full swing.  New beds were constructed that weren't claimed. Many pros...
